More than a century ago, some Taiwanese people began making the assertion “Taiwan belongs to the Taiwanese.” For more than a century in between, Taiwanese has never stopped facing the threat of invasion from another powerful nation. I write about Taiwan’s past as a step into its future. And thank you so much to the National Book Foundation for recognizing us, which I think, uh, we both feel is a recognition for the place that we come from, Taiwan.

很多人都會希望可以讓更多的人知道不同面向的台灣。
Many people hope that they’ll get to show more aspects about Taiwan.
就是它不是只有semiconductor，它不是只有bubble tea，它有很多很多不一樣的東西。
It’s not only semiconductor. It’s not just bubble tea. There is so much more.
那今天你可以把它帶進文學界，這是台灣第一次欸。
And for the fact that this is Taiwan’s first literature prize.
